In short, that's my privacy policy.
Last updated: October 30, 2026
Begin legal stuff here: This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which Best Homepage Ever collects, uses, maintains and discloses information collected from users (each, a "User") of https://besthomepageever.com website ("Site"), my browser extensions (PinDrop, New Tab, Portal and Trip Catcher) used with Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Opera. This privacy policy applies to the Site and all services offered by Best Homepage Ever.
This Privacy Policy describes Our policies and procedures on the collection, use and disclosure of Your information when You use the Service and tells You about Your privacy rights and how the law protects You.
I use Your Personal data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, You agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
I partner with Microsoft Clarity to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve and market our products/services. Website usage data is captured using first and third-party cookies and other tracking technologies to determine online activity. For more information about how Microsoft collects and uses your data, visit the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
This section applies specifically to users of the Portal browser extension ("the Extension"). New Tab Launcher and PinDrop have their own sections below. The Extension lets you quickly add websites to your Best Homepage Ever dashboard.
The Extension collects and stores the following information locally on your device:
Authentication Tokens: When you log in to Best Homepage Ever, the Extension receives and stores your JSON Web Token (JWT) in your browser's local storage. This token is used solely to authenticate your API requests when adding websites to your homepage through the Extension.
Extension Settings: Portal keeps its settings (the category new sites start in, tile color, what right-click does, and desktop notifications) and the last category you used in your browser's extension storage on your device.
Current Tab Information: When you open Portal, it reads the address (URL) and title of your current tab to fill in the "Add this site" form. To show the site's icon and tell you whether the site is already on your homepage, Portal sends that address to Best Homepage Ever at that moment. It's used only to answer those two questions and isn't saved to your account (like any web request, it may appear briefly in standard server logs). The site's address, and the name, category and color you choose, are saved to your homepage only when you add the site.
The Extension does NOT:
Portal requires the following browser permissions: Storage (to save your authentication token and settings), Active Tab (to read the current tab's URL and title when you use Portal), Tabs (to find open Best Homepage Ever tabs so a new site appears there right away), Scripting (to show the confirmation message after a right-click add and to connect to Best Homepage Ever tabs that were open before Portal was installed or updated), Context Menus (for the "Add to Best Homepage Ever" right-click option), Notifications (for optional desktop confirmations, off unless you turn them on in Portal's settings), and Host Permissions for besthomepageever.com and api.besthomepageever.com (to save sites, load site icons and sync your login status). Firefox lists Scripting under Active Tab and host permissions.
All Extension data is stored locally using your browser's secure extension storage. Communication with Best Homepage Ever servers occurs over HTTPS with secure Bearer token authentication. Your authentication token remains stored locally until you log out or uninstall the Extension. The Extension follows the developer policies of each store it's published in, including the Chrome Web Store's Limited Use requirements.
This section applies to the New Tab Launcher browser extension ("New Tab Launcher"). It opens Best Homepage Ever, or another address you choose, in your new tabs. In Microsoft Edge, and in some other browsers, it also sets Best Homepage Ever as the homepage your Home button opens.
One setting: whether new tabs open Best Homepage Ever or another address, and that address if you entered one. It's kept in your browser's sync storage, which your browser may copy to your other computers if you're signed in to it. Uninstalling New Tab Launcher removes it.
When a new tab opens Best Homepage Ever, the website sections of this policy apply, as they do for any visit.
Storage (the setting above) and Context Menus (right-click shortcuts that open Best Homepage Ever, its About page and this extension's help page).
This section applies to the PinDrop browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari ("PinDrop"). PinDrop saves content from the web pages you choose to your Snippets on Best Homepage Ever.
PinDrop only reads a web page when you ask it to save something: by choosing an option in the PinDrop menu, choosing a PinDrop option when you right-click, or pressing the PinDrop keyboard shortcut. What it reads depends on what you save:
PinDrop's code is present on the pages you visit so it's ready when you need it, but it doesn't read or send anything from a page you haven't chosen to save. When you open the PinDrop menu, it shows the name of the site you're on. That is read on your device and isn't sent anywhere.
What you save is sent over a secure (HTTPS) connection to your Best Homepage Ever account and appears in Snippets on your homepage. Screenshots and saved images are stored with Amazon Web Services, my cloud storage provider, at a long, randomly generated web address. That address isn't listed or shared anywhere, but anyone who has the exact address can open the file, so keep that in mind before saving a screenshot of something private.
Your saved content is used only to show it back to you. I don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for any other purpose.
Both are kept in your browser's extension storage, and uninstalling PinDrop deletes them.
Context Menus (the right-click options), Tabs and Active Tab (to read the address and title of the page you save, capture screenshots, and refresh your Snippets on open Best Homepage Ever tabs), Scripting (to show the screenshot selection box and save confirmations on the page), Storage (your sign-in token and settings), Notifications (optional desktop notifications, off by default), and access to all websites (so you can save from any site you choose).
You can delete any snippet from Snippets on your homepage. Deleting a screenshot or image snippet also deletes its file from storage. Deleting your Best Homepage Ever account removes your account, your Snippets, and their screenshot and image files.
PinDrop's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
This section applies to the Trip Catcher browser extension ("Trip Catcher"). Trip Catcher saves a travel booking (a confirmation email or a booking site's confirmation page) as a trip on your Travel page on Best Homepage Ever.
Only the tab you're on, and only when you open Trip Catcher by clicking its toolbar button. It then looks for the booking on that page: the text you selected if there is any, otherwise the email you have open in Gmail or Outlook on the web, otherwise the page's main content. It shows you what it found and reads nothing else. It doesn't run on pages in the background, read your other tabs or emails, or record your browsing history.
Nothing leaves your browser until you click Save to my trips. Then Trip Catcher sends that booking's text (with images, scripts and page styling removed) and the email's subject or the page's title to Best Homepage Ever, over HTTPS, signed in as you. From there it's handled like a pasted confirmation email (see Travel): my server has an AI model from Anthropic read the trip details out of it (Anthropic doesn't use it to train its models), and I keep only those details (destination, dates, flights, hotel and confirmation numbers) as a trip on your account, not the email or page.
Sign-in token: when you're signed in to Best Homepage Ever, Trip Catcher receives your sign-in token from the website and keeps it in the browser's extension storage on your device, to save trips to your account. Signing out of the website removes it.
Your last save: the result of a save (the trip's name, flights and hotel) is kept in the browser's session storage for 15 minutes, so reopening Trip Catcher on the same page shows it. Closing the tab or the browser clears it.
Active Tab (to read the tab you opened Trip Catcher on, only then), Scripting (to find the booking on that tab, and to connect to Best Homepage Ever tabs that were open before Trip Catcher was installed), Storage (your sign-in token and last save), and Host Permissions for besthomepageever.com and api.besthomepageever.com (to save trips and sync your login status).
You can edit or delete any trip on your Travel page. Deleting your Best Homepage Ever account removes your account and your trips. Uninstalling Trip Catcher removes everything it stored in your browser.
Trip Catcher's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
The Best Homepage Ever app is the Mac App Store app that brings PinDrop and Portal to Safari. The two extensions inside it work as described in their sections above, with these differences:
The AI tools on my Tools page (Remove Background, Upscale Image, Restore Old Photo, Transcribe Audio & Video, Vocal Remover, and Summarize a PDF) work differently from my file converters. The converters run entirely in your browser and never upload anything. The AI tools can't: they need AI models that run on servers, so the file you choose is uploaded.
When you create a homepage background with AI, the description you type (your prompt) has to go to an AI model that runs on servers.
The trips you save on my Travel page (destinations, dates, flights, hotels and confirmation numbers) are stored with your account so they show up on any device you sign in on.
The words of which the initial letter is capitalized have meanings defined under the following conditions. The following definitions shall have the same meaning regardless of whether they appear in singular or in plural.
