Brave Setup Instructions

how to manually enter homepage and new tab page instructions

Step 1

Open Brave and go to Settings (click the menu icon at the top right). In the Get Started section, find On startup and select Open a specific page or set of pages.

Step 2

Click Add a new page, type the address you want as your homepage, and confirm. You can add more than one — Brave will open each in its own tab.

Step 3

Scroll down to the New Tab Page section and set New tab page shows to Homepage. This is optional, but without it your startup page and your new tabs will show two different things.

Startup page, new tab, and homepage

Brave keeps these in three separate places, which is why changing one often looks like it did nothing:

  • On startup — what loads when you open Brave. That's the setting in Step 1.
  • New tab page shows — what loads on every new tab. Separate dropdown, further down the same Settings screen.
  • The home button — where the toolbar's home icon takes you. Brave hides this button by default, so most people never touch it.

If you want one page everywhere, set the first two to the same address. Steps 1 and 3 above do exactly that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Brave have a homepage setting?

Yes, though it isn't labelled "homepage." Open Settings and look under Get started for On startup, then choose Open a specific page or set of pages and add your address.

Can I set more than one startup page in Brave?

Yes. Click Add a new page again for each address, or use Use current pages to capture every tab you have open right now. Brave opens all of them in separate tabs at launch.

Why does my new tab still show something else?

The startup page and the new tab page are two different settings. Setting one does not change the other. Set New tab page shows to Homepage as well — that's Step 3 above.
