A countdown with a chime that rings on time, even in a background tab
Space to start or pause, Esc to reset.
Click one to start it right away.
Yes. When you press Start, the chime is scheduled on your browser's audio clock, which keeps time even when the tab is in the background. Browsers slow down background tabs, so timers that wait for the page to check the time can ring up to a minute late. The tab's title also shows the time left, so you can glance at it from another tab.
Press Test to check your volume, and make sure “Chime when time’s up” is ticked. On an iPhone or iPad, the ring/silent switch mutes sounds from web pages, so turn it to ring. The chime only plays while this page is open: closing or reloading the tab stops the timer.
The countdown is based on the real time, so it stays right. If it ran out while your computer was asleep, the chime plays as soon as it wakes up.
Up to 720 minutes, which is 12 hours, in whole minutes. The stopwatch has no limit.
Yes. Space starts or pauses whatever is showing, and Esc resets it. In the minutes box, Enter starts the timer.
A way to work in focused bursts: set a 25-minute timer and work on one thing until it rings, then take a 5-minute break. After four rounds, take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes.
No. The timer runs in your browser. It remembers your last duration and whether the chime is on, on your own device. My site's analytics counts that the timer was used, the same way it counts page views.
This timer is also in the Tools menu on my homepage, where it keeps running while you browse, next to a speed test, a calculator, a file converter and more.
