iPhones have saved photos as HEIC by default since iOS 11. It is a great format for the phone, at roughly half the size of a JPG at the same quality, but it is a headache the moment the photo leaves Apple’s world. Windows needs a paid codec, most web forms reject it, and plenty of older apps simply say "unsupported file".
This converter decodes the HEIC right here in your browser and re-encodes it as a standard JPG. A little, because JPG is a lossy format, but at the default 92% quality the difference is invisible on screen and in print. If you need a lossless copy, use the HEIC to PNG converter instead.
HEIC stores the rotation as metadata rather than rotating the pixels. Some converters ignore it. This one applies the rotation while decoding, so the JPG is the right way up.
