About video to mp3 converter
This is for videos you already have on your device: a talk you recorded, a voice memo your phone saved as a video, a screen recording whose audio you want to keep. It reads the file, throws away the picture, and encodes what is left as a standard MP3 that plays on anything.
The work is done by ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running inside this tab. The first conversion downloads about 32 MB of engine, which takes a moment on a normal connection and is then reused for the rest of your visit. After that a five-minute video usually takes a few seconds. Nothing is uploaded at any point.
What this cannot do is fetch a video from a website. There is no URL box, on purpose — see the question about that below.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this to grab audio from YouTube?
No, and that is deliberate. This converts files that are already on your device. Downloading from YouTube is against their terms of service, so there is no link box here and I have no plans to add one.
Which bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps is the sensible default and is transparent for most listening. Pick 320 kbps for music you want to keep, or 128 kbps for a lecture or podcast where the file size matters more than the top end.
Why does the first conversion take so much longer?
Because the video engine has to arrive first — about 32 MB, downloaded once and kept for the rest of your visit. Every conversion after that starts immediately.
My video has no sound and it failed. Why?
If the file has no audio track there is nothing to extract, and the tool says so rather than handing you a silent file. Screen recordings made without microphone or system audio are the usual case.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in current mobile Safari, Chrome, and Firefox, though phones have less memory to work with. If a long video fails on a phone, trim it first or try it on a computer.
