About converting PNG to JPG
PNG is the right format for screenshots, logos, and anything with sharp edges or transparency. It is the wrong format for photos, where it can be ten times the size of an equivalent JPG. Email attachment limits, web upload caps, and slow galleries are the usual reasons people land here.
Drop in your PNGs, pick a quality, and this page re-encodes them as JPG on your device. Transparent areas become white, because JPG has no alpha channel. If you need to keep transparency, convert to WebP instead.
The quality slider is the only decision to make. 92% is a safe default; 80% is noticeably smaller and still looks fine for social media.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to transparent parts of the PNG?
They are filled with white. JPG cannot store transparency. If you need it, use the PNG to WebP converter, which keeps the alpha channel and is still much smaller than PNG.
Which quality setting should I use?
92% for anything you might print or edit again, 80% for the web and social media, 60% only when file size is the sole concern. Try one image at each setting and compare.
Does this reduce the image dimensions?
No. Width and height stay the same; only the compression changes. To shrink the pixel dimensions as well, use the resize tool in the Image Tools dialog on the homepage.
