This page decodes the WebP and writes a JPG using your browser’s own image engine, which is the same engine that displayed the WebP in the first place. It handles both lossy and lossless WebP, and animated WebP converts as its first frame.

WebP files are typically 25 to 35 percent smaller than a JPG of the same quality, which makes pages load faster. That saving is invisible to you as a visitor but matters to the site.
It converts the first frame only, since JPG cannot hold animation. For the full animation you would need a GIF or video format.
Yes, transparent areas become white because JPG has no alpha channel. Use the WebP to PNG converter if you need to keep transparency.
